Communications Department
This is the public relations department of the USS Dauntless. Comms are responsible for publishing the Dauntless' newsfeed, the Crow's Nest, and for producing marketing material like brochures, pamphlets, advertisements and content for this website.
Comms is also involved in managing the content of the Dauntless' public-facing online presence, such as social media pages and websites.
Below are the volunteer "Duty Station" positions that fall under the Communications Department. Active members who don't wish to volunteer may request to be assigned to Communications as a "Standard position" with no duties allocated.

The Chief Communications Officer (CCO) is the Department Head for the Communications Department of the USS Dauntless. The Department Head acts as a communication conduit between the Command Department and the Communications Department, and is charged with overseeing the Department's areas of responsibility.
This position may not be held by an Enlisted member.
Duties and Qualifications
Duties
Departmental Supervision: Maintaining open lines of communication with members of the Communications Department. This requires attempting to have at least one communications exchange with each member of the Department per calendar month. This may be in the form of a face-to-face meeting, a telephone conversation, an Instant Message conversation, an email exchange or anything of a similar nature.
Reporting: Submitting Departmental Monthly Status Reports (DMSR) to the XO on or before the 3rd of each calendar month. This report must include information such as promotion nominations, award nominations, planned or past events when applicable, as well as the success or failure to contact members of the Department.
Logging: Write a regular column for the Crow's Nest.
Editorial Control:
Editing and publishing the Crow's Nest.
Editing and publishing posts through the Dauntless social medial feeds (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook etc).
Editing content of the USS Dauntless website.
Delegation: Performing any and all duties the Deputy Chief Communications Officer is unable to perform.
Officer of the Watch: Providing moderation and administration support to internal and external Dauntless communications channels. Monitoring those channels during convenient hours and taking swift action should any inappropriate content be posted or other issues arise.
Fleet Operations: Colaborating and coordinating with Communications, Moderation & Marketing communities within Region 8 and STARFLEET International.

Qualifications
In order to be considered, the applicant must already be an active participant in a bare minimum of 30% of all USS Dauntless activities measured over a 3-month time-frame. This must include online and in-person activities, as well as the monthly challenges. The applicant must also be an active user of Discord, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and YouTube.
Required in order to qualify for application for position
Grade O-2 (Lieutenant JG/Second Lieutenant) or higher.

PD-100 certification (STARFLEET Marine Corps Academy)
Privileges
Upon appointment, the Chief Communications Officer is granted a conditional promotion to the grade of O-3 (Lieutenant/Marine Captain). After holding the position for 6 continuous months, the promotion becomes permanent.
The Deputy Chief Communications Officer (DCCO) is the Deputy Department Head for the Communications Department of the USS Dauntless. The Deputy Department Head acts as a reserve for the Department Head.
If held by an Enlisted member, use the title "Chief Communications Non-Commissioned Officer" (CCNCO).

Privileges
Deputy Chief Communications:
Upon appointment, the Deputy Chief Communications is granted a conditional promotion to the grade of O-3 (Lieutenant Junior Grade/First Lieutenant). After holding the position for 6 continuous months, the promotion becomes permanent.
When the CCO position becomes vacant, the DCCO is automatically considered an applicant for the position, regardless of his/her qualifications.
Chief Communications Non-Commissioned Officer
Upon appointment, the Chief Communications Non-Commissioned Officer is granted a conditional promotion to the grade of E-7 (Chief Petty Officer/Gunnery Sergeant). After holding the position for 6 continuous months, the promotion becomes permanent.
A Communications Operator (Operator) is responsible for managing the Dauntless' many communications systems, such as web forums, chat-rooms or social media groups. The Operators are the moderators of the channels, exercising the right to invite, add, scold, kick or block members of those channels.
This station may be held by multiple crew-members simultaneously, up to one per channel.

Admitting applicants to the channel in accordance with security policies, as laid down by the Chief Security Officer.
Seeking Command authorisation before kicking or blocking a user from a channel.
Publicizing Dauntless activities on the channel.
