Mrs. Lengyel's Advanced Photography Class Gallery, Winter 2020
Advanced Photography is a year long course.
Course Essential Questions: What makes photography “art”?
What makes a photographer an artist and not just someone who takes pictures?
THE COLOR PROJECT:
Students had to choose their own topic and then colorize the image in Photoshop to express a mood. This is one of their first endeavors in starting to practice "Artistic Intention".
Erin Bridges, Grade 11
Bella Cybulski, Grade 11
Margot Mendes, Grade 11
Marissa O'Rouke, Grade 12
Will Tottenham, Grade 11
Taha Turshani, GRADE 11
THE OLD MASTERS PROJECT:
In art history, "Old Master" (or "old master") refers to any painter of skill who worked in Europe before about 1800, or a painting by such an artist. An "old master print" is an original print (for example an engraving or etching) made by an artist in the same period. For this project, students had to select an Old Master painting and then recreate it with their photography skills.
Erin Bridges, Grade 11
"Flora" by Gustave Jacquet, 1840's
Taha Turshani, Grade 11
HIGH-KEY WHITE LIGHTING
Students learn how to shoot with extremely bright lighting--with little to no shadows. They did both still life set-up and portraits. The results are below.
Erin Bridges, Grade 11
Margot Mendes, Grade 11
Marissa O'Rourke, Grade 12
William Tottenham, Grade 11
ANDY GOLDSWORTHY PROJECT
Mrs. Lengyel's students studied who ANDY GOLDSWORTHY is and why he creates his art. The Advanced Photography students then created their own versions of ANDY GOLDSWORTHY inspired photographs.
Andy Goldsworthy is a British artist known for his site-specific installations involving natural materials and the passage of time. Working as both sculptor and photographer, Goldsworthy crafts his installations out of rocks, ice, leaves, or branches, cognizant that the landscape will change, then carefully documents the ephemeral collaborations with nature through photography. “It's not about art,” he has explained. “It's just about life and the need to understand that a lot of things in life do not last.” The artist currently lives and works in Dumfriesshire, United Kingdom.
