Madison Lisowski 2020
I took a course on beauty roles and wrote a portfolio. Piece #1 is a self-portrait that was taken from the idea that no matter how hard girls try, they still fail to be positive when looking in the mirror. My second piece is a Hockney-style Barbie doll titled "Barbie Standards." Piece #3 shares how demeaning the truths of a scale can be. The 4th piece is projector art with slurs to show the words people get called both on social media and in reality. Piece #5 is based off of "beauty hurts" and the pain girls go through to look beautiful. Piece #6 features my actual writing from my writing portfolio and also features an excessive amount of pink, the color symbol of feminism. My seventh photo is based off of the quote "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Piece #8 depicts the idea that one can only be beautiful with plastic surgery. The ninth piece is about "white-washing" in the media. My final piece is based off of the eating disorders that come with "beauty."
