SCSU DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY:

Mini Sustained Investigation Projects

In SCSU Digital Photography (Photography 2), each student had to create their first Sustained Investigation. A Sustained Investigation is the concept of producing a series of sequential visual forms--to explore in greater depth a particular visual concern. In AP STUDIO ART, the students must create a 15 image Sustained Investigation Portfolio--in order to prepare, we start with a 3 image project in Photo 2 (SCSU Digital Photography). The students had to choose their own topic and create a visual concept of three images that all related or told a visual story. Below are their images and descriptions. (Mrs. Lengyel)

My sustained investigation is about finding ways to make a subject appear small using ratio and proportions. By taking a short depth of field photo and photoshopping a separate photo of my subject into it, I can apply this theme into the photos. By keeping the shadows visible and apparent, it can make the illusion appear more real.

"My mini sustained investigation is about different healthy meals--breakfast, lunch and dinner." Kasey Beard, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about what people say about your diet and the impact that it has on you." Kylie Bulinski, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about how COVID-19 is affecting my mother as a healthcare worker. My pictures focus on her stress after working long shifts, the amount of death certificates she has had to sign, and the gruesome way she has to test people for the virus." Aydan Colon, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about the affects of the coronavirus. Recently, many people have had to change their life style and daily routine, such as wearing a mask and gloves when going out in public. Many people, such as teachers and students have had to switch to online working. Working from home can be very difficult at times, with lack of motivation and real life help from teachers." Ava Falcone, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about fruit because we are in a dark time right now and everyone has to stay home and it is tempting to eat unhealthy food but fruit is better to eat because it is healthier. Also, since it is such a dark time, fruit has bright colors. When I was shopping the bright colors could make it look like it was not as much of a dark time." Adrianna Heeman, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about breaking the rules and going places you are not allowed to go." Maille Ianniruberto, Grade 9

"My mini sustained investigation is about how music effects different types of emotions. The first picture shows a dark and moody scene by the window to represent sadness and despair. The second picture shows happiness and blissfulness because the stereo is on and the flowers represent a more bright scene. Then finally, the third picture shows feeling lost and mysterious because the cd is covering his face but the hole of the cd shows just his eye. This makes you put your own spin and opinion of the picture and leaves you guessing." Riley Kane, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about shoes and the different styles. In the first picture, I did 2 different Nike shoes to show how Nike has changed and made their shoes better. In my second picture I did dance shoes because my sister has been dancing for a while. In the last photo I did a picture of vans to also show the two different styles and to show how they have developed." Isabella Kraemer, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about the effects departure has on a person. We each have experienced departure in a different way whether it be moving, traveling, starting a new chapter in your life, or someone close to you leaving." Alexandra Lisowski, Grade 10

"My mini-sustained investigation is about the gap in the gaming word between men and women. We each have a place in it and have to share it equally. We each can play and we can both be equally good at the game." Caitlyn Reed, Grade 9

"My mini sustained investigation is about addiction to technology. The first one is about a kid playing video games in his own world because that is all he is focused on. The second is the phone and how there are texts from dad telling him to get off the phone. The last one is about just Netflix and snacks." William Tottenham, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about how the pandemic has changed people's lifestyle, now people have to wear all this gear to go grab your favorite snack from the store. The second picture is about most of the people's lifestyle in the pandemic-- which is watching Netflix all day. The third and final picture is about how people work in their bed." Taha Turshani, Grade 10

"My mini sustained investigation is about the beach and how beautiful it can be in the Spring." Gabriella Mastropietro, Grade 10

My mini sustained investigation is about my backyard. It shows that you do not have to go far to get a great photo. I also was able to explore my own backyard and discover items/plants that I would not typically notice.

My mini sustained investigation is about the different types of food that Macedonians eat during Eid al-Fitr. Eid al-Fitr is a celebration after the holy month of Ramadan. Ramadan is a whole month where Muslims around the world have too fast from sunset to sundown. This teaches us patience and helps us appreciate the things that we have. Eid al-Fitr is a huge celebration that lasts 3 days, the 1st day we go to the Masjid in the morning where we have to pray Eid prayer, after prayer that is when Eid actually starts. Then we go home and eat many different types of food and we spend time with family and friends. The rest of the days many family and friends would come over to your house or you would go over their houses and there you would eat more food. These are some of the foods and drinks we have on the first day of Eid.
