JULIA CURTIN: Depression/Farm Security Administration Appropriated and Reimagined.

Before you begin:

1. Understand who JULIA CURTIN is. http://www.juliacurtin.com/

2. Understand what the Resettlement era was: Resettlement focuses on the vernacular architecture, the transient, makeshift structures inhabited by the migratory victims of the 1930's Great Depression

3. Understand who Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange were.

4. Understand what the Farm Security Administration is.

5. Understand what APPROPRIATION means. and the nuances between APPROPRIATION AND APPRECIATION

For your project:

1. Choose a building from the resettlement era:

2. Take the shape of the building.

3. Fill it with images from the rest of the image. Or other images within that time frame.

4. Consider your message... your artistic intention-- what are YOU trying to say as an artist.

5. Image must be printed, attached to Railroad board and ready to be shared in a CRITIQUE at the beginning of class.

6. You also MUST write a short paragraph explaining your artistic INTENTION and why you APPROPRIATED certain images
