Each week, teachers identify a student as the WOW student of the week. These students are highlighted for going above and beyond in some area. Teachers share the reason with the class. Each student gets a certificate, a coupon for a free donut from Donut Chain and has their picture shared in the flyer.
Note: If your student has dietary preferences that conflict with donuts, let me know and we have some alternatives.
Let's hear it for ...
Norah Rarick (Ortlieb), Vincent Aguilera (Lawrence), Madeline Valverde (Wong),
Shelby Jung (Hoffman), Ira Shah (Leonard), Amelia Olmeda (Blankenship), Genesis Ruiz (Ramos), Victoria Moya Platas (Garcia), Dylan Robles (Fano), Emery Northrop (Kiblinger), Natalia Negrete (Hanna), Aria Song (Gill), Giovanna Rojas (Seitz), Charlize Rodriguez (Marasco), Noelle Flaming (Amaya), Nolan Song (Simmons/Cruz), Ollie Shaw (Cruz/Simmons), Alyson Wright (Cruz/Simmons)

Three very beloved Wagner staff members were honored during the PTA meeting at Open House for their service to Wagner. Thank you very much to the following very deserving community members
Pictured below are:
Mr. Louie with PTA president Becky Demboski and teacher Anita Amaya, Mr. Hanna with PTA President Becky Demboski, and Mrs. Seitz with proud husband Mr. Seitz.
Mr. Louie joined PYL 9 years ago. He started as our night custodian, but was promoted to Plant Coordinator two years ago. Mr. Louie is universally loved by our community and will do literally anything in support of Wagner. Seriously.
Make sure we have a clean campus to welcome our students every day? Check! Set up our spaces for different events? Check! Let BMX stunt riders jump bikes over him? Sure! Climb on the roof to get lost recess equipment and even a shoe here and there or scare all the geese off of our fields ? For sure. Drop anything and everything to help a wildcat student or staff member in need? Absolutely. And let's not forget that just the idea of having cookies with Mr. Louie is a very popular cub cash prize.
Louie takes time to connect with our students and goes above and beyond to support our wildcats. We are appreciative of the pride and ownership he takes in the Wagner community and are thankful for him every day. Mr. Louie - we see your generosity of spirit and self every single day, and we are grateful for it. Thank you, Mr. Louie!
Mr. Hanna has been teaching in PYLUSD for almost 30 years. He's dedicated his career to supporting learners, and his impact is immeasurable, but let's try. That means that almost 800 students can call him their teacher. Well over the number enrolled in all of Wagner! He leads with a kind heart above all, and our community is lucky to have him.
From class songs on his guitar, to small groups with students, and a kind word for all, Mr. Hanna connects his students to their community. On top of this, his gets his students to soar academically.
His teaching partner says that he is one of the most patient and kind teachers she knows. Mr. Hanna is always there for his students and truly has their best interest in heart and mind. Beyond that, he's someone you can go to if you need advice, someone to just listen, or someone to help you know that everything will be okay. He makes his class and our school feel like family.
On a side note, Mr. Hanna is one of three teachers and two classroom aides we have retiring this year. Enjoy your well earned retirement, Mr. Hanna! You've certainly earned it!
Mrs. Seitz is finishing up a decade of teaching at Wagner. She takes care of everybody around her - students and staff included! Over the years she's connected our staff community by leading the social committee at Wagner, has volunteered her time to tutor after school, and has gone above and beyond to teach not just academic content, but also learning skills and life skills (like sewing and being organized!). She is committed to creating experiences that help our wildcats shine like the War of Words reading competition. She is all in, every day, for students.
Mrs. Seitz is the sort of person who shows you exactly what they believe by living out a strong moral code and deep integrity every single day. She holds high expectations for her students, and provides supports for them to achieve their goals. We see her results in her students' academic success, and in their personal growth overall. Her teaching partner sums it up by saying she's the best. She adds that Mrs. Seitz is the most dependable, thoughtful, and hard-working partner anyone could ever ask for.
She has a caring heart and always puts others before herself. Plus, she's encouraged A LOT of students to love Star Wars with her. Thank you, Mrs. Seitz!
We loved seeing all of you at Open House! Student pride abounded and there was excitement in each room as students showed off their work and learning from the year.
We have nine Wagner students with art showing at the Nixon library! Please take a chance to stop by and see the Artworks exhibit! There's no charge to see the PYLUSD Artworks show at the Nixon.
What can a fifth grader do with a peep? They can write about it, they can explain their math to it, and they can definitely build contraptions to protect it from the peep drop! Check out these students testing their builds at the top if the playground rock wall.
First grade took a break from their hard learning work and decorated the outside of their classroom!
Students earn cub cash throughout their day on campus. Then, they can spend their cub cash on Fridays (or save for bigger incentives). I had so much fun with students who used their cub cash to buy popsicles with the principal! Other prizes include cookies with Mr. Louie, PTA sno cone parties, fun trinkets in the cub cash store, and even in and out cards!
After a busy book fair week, PTA treated our classrooms to filled wishlists of books for their classroom libraries. Thank you , PTA! It was exciting to see teacher mailboxes full of books to give a spring refresh to their libraries!
