September 22-26
Hello B1 Families,
ANNOUNCEMENTS
3rd Grade Expectations: Please continue to reinforce 3rd grade behavior and academic expectations at home. We are teaching our 3rd graders how to strive for academic excellence, keep a growth mindset, take accountability for their words and actions and model respect towards our teachers and peers. Reinforcing these expectations at home will help our class have a successful and fun year at school.
Tierra Linda Community Council: If your child is interested in participating in Community Council this year, please fill out this form with them- Community Council Form
This year, 3rd graders involved in Community Council will help create our School Spirit days and themes, make posters for spirit days, and help with our district-wide canned food drive, Stuff-a-Bus. Students would participate in Community Council during school hours. They would not miss class time to be involved. Meetings will take place once a month during students' lunch time.
APEX Fun Run: Thursday, September 25th is Tierra Linda's APEX Fun Run! 3rd grade will be running at 8:45 am. Make sure to eat breakfast and bring a water bottle!
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: Students will be working on a Study Guide in class Monday. They should be reviewing this Study Guide for homework in preparation for their test. On Tuesday, students will be taking a Math test. On Wednesday, we will continue to work with equal groups, multiplication and division. They will use arrays and tape diagrams to represent problems. Students will explore the relationship between multiplication and division through the Read, Draw, Write process. On Friday of this week, 3rd grade will begin timed multiplication tests. This week we will be starting with 0-1. Students will have 100 problems and will be given 10 minutes to complete it. In order for students to continue on to the next number, they can only miss 10 problems. Please make sure that your child is practicing multiplication daily for at least 10 minutes. Flashcards are a great option! If you would like to print a set of flashcards, visit this site. A great, free website students can use to practice at home is timestables.com.
Reader's Workshop: We will finish our Benchmark Unit 1: Government for the People. Our focus will be answering the essential question: Why do people participate in government?
Students will also continue using skills to find the main idea and key details, answer text dependent questions and edit 3rd grade conventions. Students will take a Benchmark test on Friday.
Writer's Workshop: This week students will continue to focus on writing a well-constructed, 5 sentence paragraph. Students will be writing about the perfect Fall day. Students will be writing complete sentences using correct capitalization, spelling and punctuation. They will continue to write a topic sentence, supporting details and a concluding wrap-up sentence.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 29 of their Studies Weekly Curriculum. We are jumping to Week 29 to dive into Civics and Government. Students will be learning about important documents such as the U.S. Constitution and the purpose of government.
Science: Through reading an informational text, students continue to explore how organisms can be similar and different. Students read the book Blue Whales and Buttercups, which provides many examples of the great diversity of organisms on Earth and the many ways in which they can be similar and different.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Friday for P.E/Dance class every week.
