Week 2
August 26-30
August 26-30
Hello B1 Families,
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Parent Survey: If you have not done so already, please take this short survey to help me get to know your child better! Click on the link to complete: Survey
Supplies: If your child brought supplies for themselves, like a personal pencil box, they will be asked to put them back in their backpacks at the end of each day. Any other supplies such as notebooks, drawing pads, sticky notes, etc. must stay at home. We have very small desks and having extra supplies make it hard to stay organized and can become a distraction.
Communicator: Your child will be coming home today (Monday) with a communicator (planner). The communicator is where your child will write down their homework assignments, tests, due dates, and reminders. Each day, please read the communicator together with your child, check off assignments completed, then sign the communicator.
Back to School Night: Wednesday, August 28th will be our Back-to-School Night. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. Students have an early dismissal at 1:25. This evening will have important information about our year. I will be explaining the curriculum, my procedures and expectations, the importance of reading at home, and how parents can help their children at home. Please save the date.
Chromebooks: Students will begin working with their Chromebooks this week. I will provide one pair of headphones for each child. If your child would prefer, they may bring their own small headphones to keep in the classroom.
Fun Friday: We will review the Fun Friday requirements at Back to School Night this week. Students will learn the expectations to earn Fun Friday this week.
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: This week, students will begin working in their Learn and Apply Books. Students must travel with their Apply Book to and from school each day. Books must stay in good working condition. This week, students will connect their understanding of equal groups and repeated addition to multiplication.
Reader's Workshop: This week we will begin our book study of The 100 Dresses. This is a beautiful story that addresses individual differences and the power of kindness.
Writer's Workshop: The class will be writing their families a letter to read on Back to School Night. We will also begin our rough drafts of "Excited for Third Grade".
Social Studies: This week, students will begin Week 1: Continuity and Change in our Studies Weekly curriculum. This week we will learn about the inquiry process and how we use it to study history.
P.E./Dance: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Thursday for P.E. every week. Make sure your child is wearing shoes and clothing that they can be active in! Please remember to pack a water bottle.
