Week 19
January 13-17
January 13-17
Hello B1 Families,
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Benchmark Reading Tests: Prior to Winter Break, the Benchmark tests and questions were read aloud to all students to help them get used to the format and types of questions on these tests. Now that we are about halfway through 3rd grade, students will be reading the tests and questions independently. Please encourage your child through this learning curve as they become more independent in their reading skills.
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: Please make sure your child is practicing multiplication facts for at least 10 minutes a night. Students are working towards mastering their x0-x6 (or higher) multiplication tables by the end of January. We will be focusing on lessons 10, 11 and 12. The next math test will be on Friday. A study guide will come home on Thursday to help students prepare.
Reader's Workshop: This week, we will continue getting back into our Reader's Workshop practices. As a refresher, these stations include small groups with the teacher, reading to self, responding to reading, writing, word work and technology. We will also be doing a practice test called an IAB in preparation for the CAASPP test this spring. We will be taking the IAB on Wednesday and Thursday.
Writer's Workshop: Students will be starting an "I Have A Dream" unit in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Thursday for P.E/dance every week.
Music: Music lessons will continue this week on Friday.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about Martin Luther King Jr.
Science: Students will continue with our next lesson in our Balancing Forces unit.
