Week 10
October 20-24
October 20-24
Hello B1 Families,
It was so nice meeting with you all last week during conferences. I appreciate you all taking the time out of your busy schedules to sit down and chat about your child's progress. I had many conferences throughout the week and may be delayed in getting back to you if you had questions. If you have not heard back from me regarding any questions since our conference please feel free to email me at aharmon@pleasantvalleysd.org
We will be having a Halloween celebration on Friday, October 31st from 1pm-2pm. I would love 4 parent volunteers for the party. Please email me if you are able to volunteer. Volunteers will be on a first come, first served basis. If you are not able to volunteer for this event there will be field trips and another party to volunteer for this school year.
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: We will continue with Module 2, which focuses on measurement. Students will be estimating and measuring mass in grams, kilograms, liters and milliliters. They will relate this concept to that of place value by using a number line and unit comparisons. Students will receive a Study Guide on Wednesday on lessons 1-7. They will have a Math test on Thursday on lessons 1-7. On Friday, students will take their multiplication test.
Reader's Workshop: We will be starting a new benchmark book called Animal Adaptations. Our focus will be answering the essential question: How do living things adapt to change?
Writer's Workshop: This week students will begin writing a narrative about a spooky house. They will focus on descriptive language and the use of adjectives to add spice to their writing.
Social Studies: This week, students will continue with Week 32 in our Studies Weekly curriculum. Week 32 teaches students about the United States government. This week students will learn more about democracy, our three branches of government, and how a bill can become a law.
Science: Students continue to observe the traits of closely related organisms: four species of bears. Students analyze data about the traits of a particular bear, comparing the bear's traits with the traits of other bears.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday and Friday for P.E/dance class every week.
