Week 21
January 26-30
January 26-30
Hello B1 Families,
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Valentine's Day: 3rd grade will be celebrating Valentine's Day on Friday, February 13th. We will be doing a craft and Valentine's themed activities throughout the day. In the afternoon, we will be doing a Valentine exchange. Teachers will be providing a bag that students will decorate in class to collect their valentines. Please do not send in a box.
Students do not have to participate in the exchange. If your child would like to participate in the exchange, we have 30 students total. Please ensure your child has a valentine to exchange with everyone. To help it run smoothly, we ask that students do not write who it is to and only write their name for who it is from. This helps the passing out process with such a big group. We will send out more information in your child's weekly folder in February. Thank you!
IAB Testing: This week students will be taking an IAB (Interim Assessment Block) test. The IAB is short, focused, computer-based tests that students begin taking in 3rd grade. These tests are to monitor student progress in Language Arts and Math. We utilize this testing in 3rd grade to help prepare our students for CAASPP testing in May. This will be your child's first experience on the testing portal. They will use this as an opportunity to practice their test taking skills and gain comfortability with the format itself.
OUR WEEK AT A GLANCE
Math: Students will continue with Module 4 this week. Module 4 focuses on polygons and area. We will be working on lessons 4 & 5. Students will receive a Study Guide Wednesday and take a test on Thursday. Module 3 books should stay at home moving forward. Please make sure your child is practicing multiplication facts for at least 10 minutes a night. Students are working towards mastering their x0-x8 (or higher) multiplication tables by the end of January. Students will take their multiplication test on Friday.
Reader's Workshop: Students will be engaging in centers this week that will involve independent practice, technology, small groups with teacher, and independent reading.
Writer's Workshop: Students will continue to focus on Martin Luther King Jr. Students completed their informational writing last week and this week they will be completing an "I Have a Dream" project.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about how energy has evolved in week 27 of Studies Weekly. Students will read about how heat and electricity have changed over time.
Science: Students will be focusing on making sense of variation of different species. We will be looking at how wolves may vary depending on their specific traits.
P.E.: Please dress appropriately on Monday for P.E every week.
