It’s hard to believe, but time and seats are quickly running out for the Business in Berlin Education Abroad trip in April, 2023. There are only a few travel spots remaining, and registration closes on November 16, 2022.
We have scheduled a busy week in Berlin, learning about business in Germany and the European Union, while at the same time immersing ourselves in German history and culture. The trip will include daily walking tours of the city, along with site visits to different businesses. A special reception with the Purdue Alumni Berlin Chapter is planned as well. The course fee for the travel option is $3,995 and may be covered by aid, depending on degree plan.
For those who might not be able to make the actual trip to Berlin in person, we also offer a virtual option, where you can participate in live and pre-recorded events with German business and culture experts. The course fee for the virtual option is $350 and is also aid-eligible, depending on degree plan.
If you’re ready to sign up for Business in Berlin, apply for a space on either the VIRTUAL or TRAVEL field experience, and Education Abroad staff will be in touch to verify eligibility. As noted above, registration closes November 16, 2022, and seats are limited, so don't delay.
There are several ways to participate, depending on your degree plan:
Undergraduate students may enroll in BU329: Exploring Global Competence (2302C), a 1-credit hour elective (note you’ll need space in your degree plan for this course).
MBA students may enroll in GB602: MBA Capstone-Global Option (2302E), a NEW alternative to the traditional MBA capstone course (GB601).
MBA and MSML students who would like to delve deeper into the study of Global Business may enroll in the four-course Global Business concentration. There are limited annual entry points into the concentration, with the last Berlin cohort beginning with GB525: Global Business Environment January (2208E). This cohort will participate in the Berlin experience during the final concentration course, GB528: Global Strategy (2302E).
Other graduate programs and SBIT Alumni may enroll in GB529: Building Global Competence (2302E), a 1-credit hour Education Abroad elective. This is a great participation option if you graduate before April.
Upon satisfactory completion of all coursework requirements, all Education Abroad participants are eligible to receive the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) and digital badge, an internationally recognized mark of the ability to employ principles of intercultural awareness in professional and social settings.

While the UK is most often associated with the Beatles, recent participants in PG’s Business in London Education Abroad program had the chance to meet the Beadles. Read on for more!
In September, the School of Business & IT headed to London to spend a week exploring finance, marketing, technology, management, and ethics, all while soaking up the business and social culture in the UK’s capital city. The experience, part of Purdue Global’s new Education Abroad program, provided participants with opportunities to create community with peers, build their professional network, and explore the importance of global citizenship and intercultural communication in an international setting. Participants were also eligible to earn the AFS Global Competence Certificate.
One special moment on the trip occurred when the group visited the City of London on the day of the mayor’s election. Many minor royals were in attendance to cast their vote, as were representatives from the City’s parish wardens. These leaders, known as Beadles, historically share in the protection of the City of London. They are each required to carry a ceremonial mace, many of which are forged from solid gold and date back to the 1600s. Our Boilermakers were allowed to inspect the maces and hear more from the Beadles themselves about the long tradition of parish wardens in London.
As the week drew to a close, one participant shared the following observation: “This trip helped us to learn about the problems facing the people of London in real life. Otherwise, we would just visit sites, admire some buildings, then travel on to somewhere else. We would not know what Londoners go through in their daily lives. This trip not only helped us with our subject but also taught us about the life of Londoners in general. This shows that knowledge beyond the classroom is also essential.”
If you’re ready to become a global citizen and experience life beyond the classroom, check out the PG Education Abroad site for details about upcoming trips.
