Repenting
“For you do not desire sacrifice; else I would give it:
you do not delight in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.”
Psalm 51:16-17
Repentance is critical to your walk with God. If you are sinning, and you keep sinning, then you are not repentant nor truly sorry. This is what Christians call ‘living in sin.’ To God, being sorry means you are not ever doing that sin again. That is what “repentance” actually means to God.
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me.
Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation:
and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:
a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.
Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness,
with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.”
A Psalm of David, Psalms 51: 10-19
I didn’t understand what repentance actually was. In the movies, I saw people going to confession, the priest said their penance was doing 10 “Hail Mary’s” - but then they would do doing it all over again the next day. so i thought repentance was paying for the sin somehow and it was ok to do again. not really understanding that it was jesus who was paying for those repeated sins again and again. that is what I was doing to jesus while i was “living in sin.”
I was asking for forgiveness, while “Living in sin.” Therefore, I was not repentant. Let’s find some scripture of what sin looks like. and what the commandments are. …
was still healing of Fibro pain and chronic fatigue. still had daily migraines. knew repentance was needed for breastplate of righteousness. therefore, needed to repent and not sin any more. TAKES DAILY PRACTICE and submission at His feet.
Job was a righteous man. Satan asked Our Father if he could test Job by taking all his riches, his children, and eventually his health. Job never cursed God. God gave Job more children, his health and riches back, doubled.
Satan also asked if he could sift Peter like wheat. Christ didn’t pray that Peter not be tested, He instead prayed that Peter would be repentant after he denied Christ.
“And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold,
Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not:
and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.”
Luke 22:30-32
I would not be surprised if Satan also asked if he could sift Judas, and me, like wheat too. Ouch.
If you are sinning, and you keep sinning, then you are not repentant and not truly sorry. To God, being ‘sorry’ means you are not doing that sin again. That is what repentance actually means.
My testimony, my journey, my path is not a straight line. My journey is more like down in Simi Valley and then on up to Lake Tahoe, and then back down again to the depths of Death Valley. My path is probably closer to a roller coaster or a sine wave of a volatile penny stock that my dad was so fond of betting upon. Hmmm. Makes sense. Because my dad bet on me. God rest his soul.

Walking with Christ ~ Repenting
Think about what moved you in this section. Or perhaps something you learned or want to know more about. What are some practical things you can ask God for in your prayers to Him?
Possible things to pray for (in case you need ideas!).
- Help with praying for forgiveness
- Help with forgiving myself and others quickly
- Guidance on what to pray for
- Wisdom to ask God to take gentle care of me, as he will do nothing unless we ask
Note of caution: don’t pray for these opportunities all at once. Going slow is recommended, especially if you are healing from a hurt. In this case, ask God to take it slow with the opportunities, so you can ramp up to the one he created you to be, in such a time as this.
