What is God's Will for My Life?
"Search me, O God, and know my heart:
try me, and know my thoughts:
And see if there be any wicked way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting."
Psalms 139:23-24
Are you doing the Will of the Father?
Or are you doing the Will of you?
To answer this question, you first need to know what God's Will is.
As a child, I would often pray to thank God, and rarely asked for anything, other than happiness. I used to count my blessings and thank him for his provisions, and that would be it. I didn’t feel I could ask for things I specifically wanted, as I thought what I wanted might be against HIS WILL as… it’s true.
Are you asking God each morning, what do you want me to do today? Or are you just asking God to bless what YOU decided to do?
What is Sanctification?
Have you heard of sanctification? Sanctification is a process in which the Holy Spirit teaches us to be more like Christ.
You don’t know what God wants until you KNOW HIM.

You don't know HIM until you SEEK Him.

You don't know His Will until after You begin WALKING with Him.

When you begin to walk with Him,
only then do you begin to know how to GET RIGHT with Him.

This is the process of sanctification.
“God promises us that if we seek HIM
with all of our heart,
HE will reveal Himself to us.”
Jeremiah 29:13
In sancification, God will reveal to you what He has planned for your life. But likely it will be a very slow reveal, and certainly, not all at once. One tiny day at a time. So that you don't get too far away from Him, pursuing what you think God wants. God wants your friendship. He wants to walk with you every single day. As he illuminates only the next step, he wants you to trust each tiny step to Him, and rely on Him and Him alone.
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."
Psalm 119:105
Seeking God's will isn't for wimps.
This isn't an easy calling. Following God and trusting Him alone? This takes a spine of steel. This takes fortitude that you didn't know you even had. You can do it, through Jesus. All things are possible with Jesus.
“Large crowds were traveling with Jesus,
and turning to them he said:
If anyone comes to me and
does not hate father and mother,
wife and children, brothers and sisters—
yes, even their own life—
such a person cannot be my disciple.
And whoever does not carry their cross
and follow me cannot be my disciple.
Suppose one of you wants to build a tower.
Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see
if you have enough money to complete it?
For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it,
everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying,
‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.”
“Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king.
Won’t he first sit down and consider
whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one
coming against him with twenty thousand?
If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other
is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace.
In the same way, those of you who do not give up
everything you have cannot be my disciples.”
Luke 14: 25-32
Surrender your entire life and cares to His Will, before your spouse, your children, your boss, and even your own will.
Wait? Are you saying that I can't do what I want? That God will not just bless me as long as I follow His commandments?
Yes, That is exactly what Jesus is saying.
“Not everyone that saith unto me, Lord, Lord,
shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;
but he that do the will of my Father which is in heaven.”
Matthew 7:21
Are YOU doing the Will of the Father? Or are you doing the Will of You? Are you asking God each morning, what do you want me to do today? Or are you just asking God to bless what YOU decided to do? Doing the Will of God means that you must seek out HIS special plans for your life BEFORE you do anything else.
"In all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths."
Proverbs 3:6
Walking the Walk
Walking in Holiness ~ Seeking God's Will in Every Aspect of Your Life
Think about what moved you in this section. Or perhaps something you learned or want to know more about. What are some practical things you can ask God for in your prayers to Him?
Possible things to pray for (in case you need ideas!).
- Revelation of God’s will for your life
- Faith to do nothing until God tells you what to do
- Courage to let go of control of your own life as Jesus asks us to do
- Courage to give control of your life to God as Jesus gave His life for you
Note of caution: Going slow is recommended, especially if you are healing from a hurt. In this case, ask God to take it slow with the opportunities, so you can ramp up to the one he created you to be, in such a time as this.
