Our vision in the Physical Education (PE) department is that all learners develop the skills, confidence and knowledge to consider themselves able to stand out in the wider competitive world. We aim to support students to develop Physical Literacy, experiencing a wide range and variety of traditional and up and coming sports, whilst also learning the science and theoretical knowledge behind being physically active. All students will leave TPS with knowledge of how a healthy active lifestyle will benefit them socially, mentally and physically with the hope that they remain engaged in Sport/Physical Activity for the foreseeable future.
The curriculum is designed to engage students in a wide variety of team and individual sports across Key Stage 3. Students are ability set with challenge and scaffold at the appropriate level, with engagement, enjoyment and progress derived from the concept of ‘sport for all’.
At Key Stage 4, students can select a GCSE PE pathway and can further develop their theoretical and practical knowledge of sport and physical activity. Those who don’t wish to proceed with GCSE PE still experience physical activity. Students can select from a range of previously taught sports and new experiences that will widen their horizons and increase their knowledge of what is available to them when they leave the education system.
The PE department’s ethos is clearly aligned to the school’s:
