♪ Through Promoting confidence, expression, and a sense of belonging.
♪ By providing opportunities to perform in a range of contexts.
Our focus is on nurturing the confidence of each student to appreciate and take part in the Arts. Whether that be performing or behind the scenes, everyone has an important role to play. Our holistic approach helps students develop their skills through classroom projects, as well as our large instrumental provision and extracurricular activities run by specialist teachers.
Our Key stage 3 curriculum content is broad based, including our 'Premiere Performance' where we join with Dance and Drama to present a Performing Arts showcase. Moving through year 7 and 8, we study genres such as the development of the Orchestra, Samba, Blues, Film music and Reggae. All topics have an emphasis on practical skills through performance and composing.
In Key stage 4, students begin by looking at themselves as a musician through the Arts Award, which develops their Musical skills, experiences and knowledge. Students then move on to study the Eduqas GCSE in Music during which students progress further as performers, composers and in their analysis of a range of Musical works.
Working as a faculty, we have been proud to have a leading role in our Musical Theatre productions from “Evita” to “Cats” and “Oliver!” with our most recent production of “Fame”. We have strong community links and take our musicians out to perform to the elderly and those with dementia. We also work on primary and college projects and take part in the Petersfield Festival, bringing schools in our area together.
Music is a thriving part of the school, and we are proud to develop and nurture musical talent in our students through an inspiring, challenging and engaging musical experience whilst at TPS.
