Media Studies is a popular GCSE option subject at TPS. It is a truly contemporary subject relevant to all our lives and our understanding of our world. The curriculum is always up to date, engaging and applicable to the world of employment students will be entering. It improves literacy skills and IT skills which are transferable to other subject areas and into the workplace. Media students write detailed critiques on topics they are interested in and have strong opinions on. This assists their analytical and literacy skills in other areas, such as English and Humanities. Furthermore, it is an intellectually challenging GCSE. Media Studies has a thorough grounding in theory. It tackles linguistics, ethics of media institutions, media impact on society and representation and is a culturally rich subject. As part of the curriculum, students create stop-animation, use the green screen, design magazine covers, and create stages and sets, amongst other things. We run trips to Sky Media Studios in London, where students get to work with the professionals to create film trailers and news reports.
Respect
Our engaging curriculum encompasses current and real world issues and students have the opportunity to discuss emotive and diverse ideas about culture, modern society and current affairs. Students develop skills in oracy, presentation, team working and creative collaboration. Additionally, as an extra-curricular opportunity, TPS runs its popular radio station, over which the students take ownership.
