What do we learn about in Geography?

No subject is more relevant than the study of the world we live in!

Geography is the study of our world. It ranges from the formation of some of the dramatic natural landscapes we see around us to the natural hazards that can cause devastation to the man-made cities and economies. The movements of people around the world, along with the interactions and interlinks between each area make Geography a truly unique and inspiring subject. It is essentially a study of our world, which is in the news every single day of the year!

It will stimulate a sense of wonder about a range of places across the globe
We don’t use textbooks in lessons! We make lessons active and inspiring
We run field trips in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10, as well as a week’s residential abroad to destinations such as Iceland, Croatia or Sorrento, Italy
All of our teachers are passionate about teaching Geography and hope to instil this same passion for the world in our students

Extra Curricular Opportunities

During KS3 there are the opportunities to join us on trips to destinations such as the Natural History Museum in London. Here we visit the natural hazards exhibit and learn about earthquakes and volcanoes. We also visit Southsea to learn about coastal management and how people try to control natural processes such as erosion.

In KS4 every student carries out 3 fieldworks. In year 9 we travel to New Forest and learn about the impact of tourism. In year 10 we travel to West Wittering and learn about coastal processes and coastal management. Finally in year 11 we visit Portsmouth and look at how regeneration can benefit a city.

During year 10 every Geography student also has the opportunity to join us on an international trip. Recent trips include destinations such as Iceland where we experience a tectonic landscape and have the opportunity to see waterfalls and if we are lucky the northern lights. We have also visited destinations such as Croatia and Italy.
