The Duke of Edinburgh Award provides a balanced programme of activities that develops the whole person in an environment of social interaction and team working. We are pleased to offer both the Bronze and Silver levels of the Duke of Edinburgh programme at TPS and are supported by the Bohunt Education Trust who are a Directly Licensed Centre.
The DofE award works in harmony with our school core values of Enjoy, Respect, Achieve. Taking part builds confidence and develops self-esteem and it requires persistence and commitment. The nationally recognised award is held in high esteem by universities and employers.
Students achieve the award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections – volunteering (unpaid service to individuals or the community), physical (improving in an area of sport, dance or fitness), skills (developing practical and social skills and personal interests) and expedition (planning, training for and completion of an adventurous journey). At TPS, students are supported and encouraged to complete each section. We are fortunate to have co-curricular opportunities such as the allotment and sports clubs which can assist students with working on these sections within the school environment.
The Bronze award is launched for Year 9 to start the Bronze level, and in Year 10 students can go on to the Silver award. DofE is very popular at the school with over 100 pupils taking part each year. The award is very successful at the school and we are proud to be the largest DofE centre in the South of England.
During the restrictions in place last year, the team were proud to assist with the creation of a BET Online Training website which we use to support students by training them on the various aspects of the expedition while at home.
