Welcome to Drama. We are passionate about our subject not just because students the chance to create some amazing performances but also build on skills such as; teamwork, leadership and building confidence.
We know that not everyone finds it easy performing in front of an audience but also know that confidence build very quickly and performing in front of the class will become second nature. Students will have the chance to perform in our wonderful studio and have a professional performing experience.
Students will have the chance to devise work which will allow the creativity to flow and the choice of where to take the Drama is almost boundless. Students will also perform scripts where they will learn all about the vocal and physical skills of different characters that they play and study.
We want students to feel comfortable to take risks and be able to take challenges with the roles they take on and decisions that they make when creating performances. Students will cover a range of subjects within their Drama lessons; from historical events to moral issues whilst learning about a variety of different theatre techniques.
Students, particularly in key stage four will get the chance to explore other aspects of theatre including set, lighting, sound and props. Drama will give students many opportunities and is so much more than how to act. The skills learnt in Drama will help students in many other lessons.
At Key Stage 3, students study Drama once a week. The course is designed to develop students’ confidence, literacy skills, creativity, social and team building skills. Students have the opportunity to perform in school performance evenings as well as large scale school performances such as our school musical, which is held at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth as well as our Drama performance in the Studio. There is a range of extracurricular opportunities, including workshops with professional actors and companies, as well as theatre trips.
At Key Stage 4, students can opt to study GCSE Drama, as well as continue to take part and lead in many of extracurricular events.
Part of our TPS Student Leadership roles include Performing Arts Prefects, who lead Drama clubs and help run events in the Studio. Prefects with a more technical interest in Performing Arts receive full training on our lighting and sound equipment.
