In Maths lessons, our aim is to help you build on your skills from primary school to work towards GCSEs. We will make sure you are in the right set for your ability, so you can feel challenged but not overwhelmed.
The 4 areas of Maths that you will study are Number, Algebra, Shape and Data. These topics will come up every year, so you will always get another chance to revisit something you find tricky.
Your Maths lessons will all start with a numeracy focus to get you in the mood for learning. The rest of the lesson will include some clear explanation from your teacher and then plenty of time for you to try some work for yourself and ask for extra help if you need it.
You will work in an exercise book most of the time, creating your own set of notes and examples to help you revise for tests. You will have homework every week; a booklet and tasks set on Hegarty (online). Hegarty Maths is an amazing website with videos to explain all the work.
It’s really important that you come to Maths lessons fully equipped – pen, pencil, ruler, rubber, protractor, compasses and a scientific calculator.
We run trips to Bletchley Park, Greenwich Observatory and Disneyland Paris.
We also stretch our keen mathematicians with National Maths Challenges
