Welcome to the Dance department at TPS, our emphasis is to allow students to explore a range of dance styles and feel more confident with their movement skills.
Students will work both independently and as part of a group to create performances learning about dance styles from around the world from Capoeira to Gumboot to Frantic Assembly’s physical theatre.
In the first term at TPS students will get the opportunity to create a performance that they will share with their parents. They will perform Dance , Drama and music in the Premiere Performance.
We have a mirrored Dance Studio at TPS which allows students the opportunity to practise self-evaluate in order to make great progress. We strive to develop students understanding of Dance and in turn students become more competent dancers who feel more confident working with others and taking risks.
Students can study Dance as a GCSE where they will have the opportunity to take part in even more performances and develop a more in-depth understanding of several different aspects of Dance.
We have an extensive range of extra-curricular activities run by the Dance Department at TPS. These will include;
Boys Dance Company – A Dance troop that is boys only from a range of years from TPS. The Boys Dance Company have had the opportunity to perform at Bedales Dance Platform, The Festival Hall and taken part in workshops led by a professional dance company.
Whole School Musical - We put on a big (over 120 students!) musical every other year at The New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth. This gives a huge amount of students the chance to take part in a performance that has a immensely professionally feel that they will remember for years to come.
Students also get the chance to become choreographers for the shows.
Dance Live (was Rock Challenge) – Over 100 students get the chance to perform at the Portsmouth Guildhall in front of a huge audience. This Dance event is a competition where students may get the chance to reach the finals with their group.
Key Stage 3 Dance club – This gives students to develop their skills in Dance beyond their lesson time.
