5.C- Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.
Reflection
While completing the class LLT 565, we learned about Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR). For this assignment, we created a lesson plan that included either Augmented Reality or Virtual Reality. I created a reading lesson that incorporated an app called Quiver. I had never heard of Quiver until completing this unit of LLT 565. Quiver is an augmented reality app that allows students to color a picture and turn that picture into a 3-D animation. I thought that this app was the perfect addition to a first grade lesson. It is something that would be fun and engaging for my students and would allow them to use a form of technology that would be easy for them to navigate.
My lesson on reading the story A Fox and A Kit with Quiver is a good fit for Indicator 5c because it uses technology to create an engaging lesson. By using Quiver, I am enhancing the lesson by adding a digital tool to it. The children are reading a story about foxes and writing down facts that they learned. They are then using the Quiver app to bring the fox to life and present to the class the three facts that they have learned along with their fox animations. The students have to follow the steps outlined by the teacher to complete the assignment in Quiver.
I really enjoyed learning about Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. I think that it can be really helpful to incorporate AR and VR into a lesson. With the advancements in technology today, children are becoming very motivated by different forms of technology. This motivation could be very helpful when completing a lesson. While teaching first grade, I try to incorporate technology where I can. I try to incorporate it even more now that I have one to one technology in my classroom. It can be hard to find technology tools that are appropriate for younger students. I was very happy when I was introduced to this app because I think that it is at an appropriate level for first grade learners while still incorporating augmented reality. In the future, I would like to incorporate the Quiver app into different subject areas in my classroom to help enhance the students' learning.
