Reflection
In LLT 545: Problem-Based Learning through Instructional Technology, I worked with a group of my peers to create a grant proposal for a specific technology. For our learning technology, we chose the MimioTeach. The MimioTeach is a form of smart board that mounts to your whiteboard. The MimioTeach has a Bluetooth option that converts your computer screen into an interactive white board. Our group created a proposal that stated the benefits of having this technology present in our classrooms. We each created a student-centered lesson that aligned with the technology standards and incorporated the MimioTeach.
For our lessons, we each chose a different topic that related to the fall. My lesson is about fall crops, specifically the pumpkin. The MimioTeach was an important part of my lesson because it was used to create a visual representation of the life cycle of a pumpkin. After reading a story, the students moved pictures around using the MimioTeach to match the life cycle of a pumpkin. The students would then plant their own pumpkin seeds to watch them complete the life cycle in person.
Up until this point of my career, I have not created a grant proposal. This project was very helpful for me to begin to see the process of creating a proposal to help benefit the students and to show how technology enhances their learning. One thing that I would change about my lesson is the amount of focus that I put on the MimioTeach and its importance to interactive teaching. I feel that the main part of my lesson revolved around the life cycle of a pumpkin and growing a pumpkin. In the future I would use the MimioTeach in more parts of the lesson to really show how beneficial it can be to student learning.
