Reflection
I created this next lesson plan for the course LLT 565: Emerging Technology for Educators. When I taught 3rd grade, our social studies curriculum focused on the Native Americans that lived in the United States. For each unit, we learned about a different region of the United States and how the Native Americans in those regions lived and survived. The unit on the Plains Native Americans was a very exciting unit because we were able to Skype with The Buffalo Bill Center of the West, which is located in Wyoming. The Buffalo Bill Center is a museum featuring the “Wild West” with exhibits on the Plains Indians.
Skyping with the Buffalo Bill Center is used as a conclusion to our unit about the Plains Native Americans. The student have already learned about the way that they lived and survived. They are instructed to come up with questions that they are able to ask the workers at the conclusion of the Skype video call. After the workers have taken them on a tour of the museum, the students are then instructed to ask their questions. From my experience completing this lesson with my students, it is one of their favorite memories for the year. They loved getting the opportunity to talk with someone from a different state and learn more about where they are from. It is a great experience when you can see students learn so much from other around the United States. I am excited to continue to provide opportunities for my students to learn from others locally and globally through the use of technology.
