Reflection
In LLT 545: Problem-based Learning Through Instructional Technology, I worked with a group of classmates to come up with a professional development technology-training day for our district. Within this project, each group member chose a different technology to coach our colleagues on during a professional development day. We created a “Needs Assessment Survey” that would be sent out to teachers prior to the training day to gain information about each teacher attending and which technology they would be interested in learning about. We also created an “Evaluation Survey” to be completed by each teacher at the completion of the training sessions.
For this assignment, I created a training on using a smart board like technology called the MimioTeach. The MimioTeach is a portable interactive whiteboard. All the MimioTeach needs is a computer and a projector to make any whiteboard interactive. The MimioTeach comes with software for your computer that allows teachers to create interactive lessons. You also have access to the MimioGallery, which has a variety of already created lessons available for you to use. In my training session, I went through some helpful tips on how to use the software and create some interactive lessons.
The MimoTeach has been an essential tool in my classroom. It allows me to make lessons more interactive and engaging for my students. It also allows for me to save less time by not having to walking to my computer to change screens. I can now use the Mimio pen like a mouse to change the screens. These features and their benefits made it much easier for me to want to teach others how to use this technology tool. I really hope that other teachers will have the same outlook on the MimioTeach after attending the training session.
