3.C- Mentor students in safe, legal and ethical practices with digital tools and the protection of intellectual rights and property.
For this standard I chose to include the changes that I would make to the Acceptable Use Policy for my school district. This was an assignment that I completed for LLT 525. For this assignment, we were asked to locate our schools Acceptable Use Policy and determine if it met the standards. After reviewing our schools policy, I decided to make some revisions and suggestions to how I believe the policy should be in order to meet the standards. This artifact fits this standard because it give students a reason as to why they have to be safe when using the internet.
The Acceptable Use Policy that I revised states the computer access controls, Internet and email conditions of use, and software and virus protection. All of the items on this policy are put into place to protect students while using the Internet. The students are informed about the importance of keeping their computer passwords private and not sharing them. They are also taught to always log out of the device that they are working on so that no one else could assess their account. The policy also informs students and teachers that should not use and district computers for harassment, gambling or for personal gains. The district also provides virus protection and any individual should not remove it. These were all suggestions that I thought should be added to the Acceptable Use Policy. This policy is very important to go over with the students in the beginning of the school year before getting started using technology.
