Reflection
My district just began using a program called Freckle Education to enforce student learning in math and ELA. This is something that was provided to use with the students but we were never formally trained on how to use this website with them. After doing some of my own research and playing around with the website, I was able to see how beneficial this would be for my students.
Freckle Education meets students at their own level and provides differentiated instruction for them. I chose to focus on math with my student’s as that is what my district recommended. There are multiple areas in math for the students to work on that match up with the common core standards for first grade. Students take a pre-test for each of these topics. This pretest places the students on their level to begin differentiated instruction. The website tracts the students progress and provides me, as the teacher with scores on how each student did each day. There is also the capability to assign students an assignment to complete.
I began working on this with my students in the classroom. I explained to them that I have never used this website before either and that we are going to work together to learn how to use it. The great thing about this website is that it is very user friendly. It is very easy for my students to navigate. They caught on very quickly and they were even able to teach me how to do a few things. My students are very engaged when they are using Freckle, which tells me that they are enjoying learning in this way. It does help that they can earn coins for answering questions correctly, which takes them into a store to dress a character. That part they really love! I am excited to continue to learn more about Freckle and use its fullest potential with my students.
