1.C- Stay current with research that supports improved student learning outcomes, including findings from the learning sciences.
For the class Methods of Research LLT 575, I created a research project on One-to-One technology in the classroom and how it would affect student engagement, motivation, and participation. I spent the whole semester researching this topic and looking for studies to support my ideas on the effectiveness of one-to-one technology. I found that this topic is something that has been researched a lot which made me more intrigued to see if my ideas matched some of the studies that were completed.
Throughout my research I found that students are more engaged when using technology. The majority of the time students are able to focus longer when they are using a device to complete an activity. I also found that due to students' increase in interest, students’ grades also tend to improve as well. The other benefit to using one-to-one technology in the classroom is that it allows for quicker communication between teacher, students, and parents.
My classroom was not one-to-one at the time that I completed this research project. The things that I learned through my research were brought back to my school district. I tried to use as much technology as possible, but it was hard when it wasn’t readily available. I did mention to my principle and the technology integrators what I had found and why it was important for us to look into getting more deceives. With complaints from other teachers about the limited availability of devices and the current pandemic that we are in, my district finally went one-to-one at the elementary level with devices. It has been a huge help this year and I hope to continue to improve the engagement of my students by using devices in my classroom.
