Stipends
General Information
Stipends are an award for making satisfactory progress towards training goals, designed to offset living expenses while on trainee appointment
Amount for Academic Year 2023-2024: $1,195 per month and there are 12 total payments
Stipends are paid ahead, meaning that the stipend you receive at the end of the month is for your traineeship next month.
Disbursement schedule: Typically by the last business day of month, July – May
You will receive two stipends in July.
The last stipend, disbursed at the end of May, is compensation for the last month of Trainee Appointment, which is June.
Disbursement Information

Stipends are not disbursed when Trainees are not registered full time.
If academic year policies and procedures are not followed or program requirements are not met, stipends may be delayed or suspended

Stipend Delay Information
Stipend Delay Policy
If your MRF with your Research Mentor's signature is not received by the 19th of each month of the month, your next stipend will be delayed until your MRF is submitted.
Example: The November MRF is not received by Monday, November 22nd. The Scholar will not receive the stipend that is disbursed at the end of November until their MRF is submitted and verified.
Exceptions
URISE understands that Scholars might need their stipends processed but are unable to get their MRFs signed or submitted. We also know sometimes asking for more time or help is overwhelming.
As such, once a term a Trainee can ask to get their stipend processed without submitting their MRF (terminology: stipend exception).
Just email us or reply to a MRF email and just say “I need more time for this month’s MRF” without any further explanation.
Caitlyn will confirm the exception and provide any relevant information.*
To be eligible for a one time exception, you must have submitted all other MRFs.
*The MRF in question will need to be signed and submitted by next month. For example, if you request an exception for the November MRF (November stipend) it would be due on 12/15.
