Uncle Russ's Measuring Task

Introduction

How many different words can you think of to do with measurement?

How would you categorise these words?

Can you fill in the table on the right?

Why do we need different units to measure the same thing? For example, length can be measured in inches, metres, miles or light years, to name just a few.

You will now be working in groups of 3-4 people:

Each group will look at one of the research questions and the prompts that go with it.

Your group's task is to prepare a short (about 5 minutes long) video to teach the others in the class what you have found out.

Use the prompts to guide you but try to make the video interesting and informative rather than just answering the questions in order.

Further Practice

Some of the essential skills introduced in this lesson are unit of measurement (length, mass, volume, capacity), (metric), unit conversion (metric and imperial). The relevant skills can be found on DrFrostMaths, CorbettMaths, MyiMaths and Eedi. Watch any video and/or go through any online lesson as you see fit.
