Getting driver files to Amiga!

Summary

In order to install the driver files on the Amiga you will need a way of transferring the files on to it!

This seems to be a chicken and egg situation, but there are several recommended methods that can achieve this.

Gotek (ADF)

If you already have a working Gotek device already set up - either internally or externally, you can create an ADF disk image with the required files and access them on the Amiga via the Gotek drive.

On a Windows machine you can use ADF Opus:

http://adfopus.sourceforge.net/

or HxC Floppy Emulator Software:

http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emulator/index.html#download

to create and manage ADF images. You can use it to copy the required files in to the ADF image, which can then be mounted on the Gotek drive in the Amiga.

CrossDOS

This solution is applicable for when you have a PC that has a floppy drive.

If you have the physical Workbench disks you can install CrossDOS so that you can use PC formatted disks. If you have the ADF versions of the Workbench disks, then you can use a Gotek drive to install CrossDOS.

On the PC you can then put the required files on to the PC floppy disk and use them on the Amiga.

WinUAE

You can emulate your Amiga 600/1200 in WinUAE (run as Administrator) and use the physical hard disk or CF/SD card that you have in your real Amiga 600/1200.

Within this WinUAE environment you can mount a directory as a drive that points to a location on your PC where you can copy or install the required files on to the hard drive or CF/SD card.

Then you can put the physical hard drive or CF/SD card back in to your real Amiga 600/1200 and the drivers will already be available for install, or be already installed if that was done within WinUAE.

Amiga Explorer

You can use Amiga Explorer to transfer the files over a serial link.

BOOT-CFD-FAT95

You can use the BOOT-CFD-FAT95 boot floppy disk to test whether the CF card you have is compatible, before installing the drivers permanently. Or use it to rule out any Workbench OS related issue.

If you have a compatible CF card you can also use this method to get the CFD and FAT95 drivers on to your A600/A1200.
