PCMCIA Compact Flash Guide

This guide will summarise what is needed to get PCMCIA Compact Flash working as a mass storage device on an Amiga A600 or A1200 to be able to transfer files to and from it.

The Compact Flash card needs to be formatted as FAT16 or FAT32, which cannot be done on the Amiga, so it needs to be done on a machine that supports this - like a Windows PC machine.

Once the CFD and FAT95 drivers are installed then the FAT16/FAT32 formatted CF card will be seen as another drive on the Amiga, with a device drive name of CF0: or as a volume name based on the label of the CF card.

Note: Certain CF cards are just not compatible, so your mileage will vary. There are also incompatibility with certain Kickstarts and 8MB of Fast memory. See Issues and Notes for further details.

You can use the BOOT-CFD-FAT95 boot floppy disk to test whether the CF card you have is compatible, before installing the drivers permanently. Or use it to rule out any Workbench OS related issue.
