Amiga A500 Rev 5 ROM Adapter
Summary
The Amiga A500 revision 5 motherboards require an adapter for Kickstart ROMs higher than 1.3, and for EPROMs.
Below is the design for how such an adapter can be made with two 42 pin DIL sockets (dual wipe ones, not turned pins) and some solid core wire. Some soldering is required for this solution.
Requirements
2 x 42 DIL sockets (dual wipe ones, not turned pins)
2 x insulated solid core wire
Soldering iron and solder, and flux (optional)
Build Instructions
Use the diagram and pictures below to refer to during the build.
Prep
Decide which socket will be the top and bottom one.
Measure and cut the wires to the appropriate length, removing the insulation from the ends of them.
Top socket
Note the notch at the 'top' of the DIL socket.
Identify pin 31 and bend the pin leg in.
Solder one end of the wire to pin 31 leg, (optional) using a bit of flux to help.
Push the other end of the wire in to pin socket 22, between the socket blade and plastic casing - see pictures
Bottom Socket
Note the notch at the 'top' of the DIL socket.
Push one end of the wire in to pin socket 1, between the socket blade and plastic casing - see pictures
Push one end of the wire in to pin socket 31, between the socket blade and plastic casing - see pictures
Assembly
Note the notches at the 'top' of the two DIL socket.
Put the Top socket on to the Bottom socket, making sure the notch on both sockets are at the same end.
