Dear Falls-Lenox Families,
It has been a great week with your children at Falls-Lenox! We opened the year with our school wide read-aloud "All Are Welcome". Students then drew self-portraits and wrote about their hopes and dreams for the new school year. Our hallways are lined with the self-portraits and hopes and dreams of each child in our school! Please scroll down for pictures! Also, thank you to our parents for completing your hopes and dreams for your children at open house. As a staff, we reviewed these and compiled them into common topics/themes. Please see below for the hopes and dreams of our Falls-Lenox families!
Students are learning about their classmates, as well as learning routines and procedures in their classrooms and throughout the building. As part of our reading workshop model, students are learning how to find a good spot to read in the classroom and working on building their independent reading stamina. Students participated in Student Engagement Assemblies this week where they learned about our PBIS building-wide expectations (Be Safe, Be Responsible, Be Respectful, and Be Kind), and the various student club opportunities available at Falls-Lenox. After the assembly, students took home a permission slip to join Terrific Kids! Students also participated in Bus Safety Assemblies.
Next week, students will be begin taking the Map Test (Map stands for Measure of Academic Progress) for Reading and Math. Students take the Map Test on a Chromebook, and the assessment measures both achievement and growth and provides teachers with detailed information that they use to inform instruction. The Map Test is administered three times per year (fall, winter, spring) and reports will be emailed home to families. Teachers are also in the process of administering the D.R.A. (Developmental Reading Assessment). This is a reading assessment that the teacher administers one-on-one with each child. This assessment allows the teacher to observe the child reading and note areas of strength and need. This assessment is also administered three time per year.
Just a friendly reminder that breakfast and lunch are no longer free this year. If you would like to place money on your child's EZ Pay account, please visit www.ofcs.net and click on the EZ Pay tab on the left side of the page.
For safety reasons, we do not allow parents/guests during lunch. If you would like to be a volunteer helper during the lunch periods, please sign up via the link that PTA sent out. A special thank you to the volunteers who have been helping our students during their lunch periods.
If at any time you have questions, concerns, or comments, please feel free to contact our main office at (440) 427-6400. We are looking forward to a great school year!

5 things to ask your child about their school day, instead of "How was school"?
What made your smile today?
Who did you sit with a lunch?
If you could change one thing about today, what would that be?
What was the hardest rule to follow today?
Tell me something you know today that you didn't know yesterday.
