Lunch Menu # 1 (Week of September 15-19)
Dear Elementary Parents and Community,
Unfortunately, today's Parade of Nations had to be postponed due to the rain. The children came to school dressed up and eager for the event. We will host it next Tuesday, September 16, at the same time, 10:30 am, and location, USS outside theatre. We hope to see you then.
Measure of Academic Progress Grades 1-5
As part of our commitment to providing a high-quality education, we use the MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Growth assessment to monitor and support our students' academic development in reading and math.
The MAP Growth assessment measures your child’s academic performance and growth over time. Unlike traditional tests that measure students' learning, MAP Growth focuses on how much they are growing academically. It adapts to each student’s level, providing a personalized assessment experience that accurately reflects their abilities.
Here are a few key points to understand your child's report:
RIT Scores: The MAP Growth assessment uses RIT (Rasch Unit) scores to measure a student’s academic knowledge and growth. The RIT scale is a stable, equal-interval scale, like inches on a ruler, that accurately measures student performance, regardless of age, grade, or year in school.
Growth Over Time: The report compares your child’s RIT scores from September to May, showing the academic growth in reading and math. Growth is expected, but the amount can vary depending on many factors, including the student's starting level and individual circumstances.
Norms: The report also includes norms, which provide a context for your child's performance compared to other students across the world. This can help you understand where your child stands relative to their peers.
Goal Areas: Each subject tested by MAP Growth is broken down into goal areas. These areas provide specific information on your child's strengths and areas for improvement, allowing for targeted support both at school and at home.
We are pleased to share that MAP Growth helps us tailor instruction to meet the needs of each student, ensuring they receive the appropriate level of challenge and support. MAP student reports will be shared with you during the October Parent-Teacher Conferences.
Earthquake Drill/Evacuation
Tomorrow we will have an earthquake drill. Students will be informed about this in advance, allowing them to practice and avoid being alarmed. Students duck and cover under their desks and then evacuate.
Access to Campus
Campus access begins at 7:45 daily. If you need to drop your child off early, you may walk them to the Upper Secondary building. Monday-Friday, the campus is open until 4:00 pm, except Wednesdays when the campus closes at 3:10 pm. The cafeteria in the ES/LSS building and the USS extension are open from 7:45-9:00 am and from 2:50-3:30 pm daily.
