The Impact of Soccer
By Kameron Van Balen, on Friday Aug. 30
Sheridan High school has an excellent soccer team, both boys and girls teams have terrific games and even better attitudes with good sportsmanship. Many might ask what makes soccer so important to them that they choose to play now in high school when you have so much going on? It’s because of the memories they make to keep forever and cherish, the memories of games and the hardships that forge new friendships and stronger people.
True happy memories come with us through life and uplift us through the hardships and give us the best stories to tell both friends and family. From the women's soccer team a happy memory shared to the newspaper by one of the team members is the following, “Freshman year, it was pouring down rain at an away game. The field had completely flooded, yet the game continued. It was cold, everyone was drenched, but somehow that was probably one of the funnest games I’ve ever played.”
Another memory shared to us by the women's soccer team was given to us, it tells us so much about the great times after the game, “My favorite memory from playing soccer over the years, is when we all went out to eat together after a game. Yes we did this a lot, but this particular time is my favorite. The game was two hours away and we basically dominated the field. We all decided to go to this random pizza place, and I’m not going to lie, the food was awful. But this was the first time we actually bonded as a team, where we all became one big soccer family. After that we just played better together on the field, got along well during practices. We had no issues, and that is why it is my favorite memory from soccer.”
Following on the trial of happiness shared through the joy of soccer, this memory was shared from the a member of the men’s team was also shared with the newspaper to include in this article and states, “One of my favorite memories from soccer would probably be last year when we beat Circleville on two breakaway goals and we got past the first round of the playoffs, we were all so excited to go to play at Unioto for our second game”
