The Grimm Brothers’ Spectaculathon: Spectacular!
By Kenzi Perkins, on Friday Apr. 11
Once upon a time, the Sheridan High School drama club performed their spring play on Apr. 11 and 12— and it was spectacular! Love stories, deals with the devil, and so much more! A tale woven from the storylines of many of your familiar fairy tales, guided by the witty repartee of the narrators, the Sheridan drama club’s Grimm Brothers’ Spectaculathon was the show to see this Friday and Saturday night.
If you’re one for twists on the classic fairy tales we all know and love, then you would have loved The Grimm Brothers’ Spectaculathon. Incorporating the stories of Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, the Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, and many others, the Sheridan drama club was able to create their own unique spin on the fairy tale genre.
While many of the bites of the classics are beloved, one in particular gained a lot of favor. “The part we did with Rapunzel was definitely my favorite part of the whole thing,” said senior Kameron Van Balen, who acted as one of the devilish narrators in the play. This opinion was the general consensus from many students who went to go see the Spectaculathon.
“When I came to see the play, I figured that the Rapunzel part would be sort of like the movie “Tangled.” Boy, was I wrong. It was still my favorite part, though,” said another senior student who attended as an audience member of the play.
Even if your favorite fairy tale isn’t Rapunzel, you can be sure that at tonight’s play, there was something for any and everyone. If you weren’t able to make it out to see the spring play this year, then be sure to mark it on your calendar for 2026! While this writer is sure next year’s play will be awesome, it’ll be hard to beat this year’s Grimm Brothers’ Spectaculathon.
Drama club wants YOU to join!
By Kameron VanBalen, on Saturday Nov. 16
Throughout the years the drama club has put on excellent plays, showcasing their excellent talents throughout shows, elementary tours and middle school shows. The club is like a tight knitted family by the end of the season, and because of the amazing and supportive director, Mrs. Moore.
This year the drama club hosts two shows, the fall show and the spring show. The fall show is “A Christmas BakeOff” where two elfs host a cooking competition and hijinks and tomfoolery occurs; this show will only be shown to the elementary schools and will not have a preformed show at the high school. Later in the year, the drama club plans to do an adaptation of the brothers' grimm fairy tales. This show will consist of a bigger plot and a longer show time than the christmas play, and will only be performed at the highschool.
The first show “A Christmas Bake-Off” that will be toured at the elementary schools will include returning actors such as Seniors: Xander Gray, Kaylee(Marry) and Kameron (noel). Noel, Marry, Santa, the Snow queen, Jack Frost, all of Santa's reindeer and even elfs from around the workshop are a part of this play. As well as these characters, real cookies are also a part of this play, which will be shared with the teachers that choose to participate in the play during the tours.
Not only is this play for the children but also to bring in the Christmas cheer and help the children write their letters to Santa, being able to take a photo with him after the Christmas play.
In all, the actors are incredibly excited to perform for the children and even happier to eat cookies and have fun at the same time.
