A Day in My Life: School as an Athlete
By Franchesca Baysa, on Thursday Dec. 5
Are you an athlete and good at school? So am I! I’m going to show you how a day in my life looks and how I juggle being an athlete and my academics.
I am Franchesca Baysa. I am a freshman here at Sheridan High School and at the moment I am ranked 50 out of 158 in my class. I play on a travel team called Cap City Force 16U. I also am going to open gyms for school ball. I have practice on Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. My daily life during off season practice days would be I wake up around 5 in the morning, get ready and I eat breakfast around 6:10. When I’m getting ready I prepare my softball clothes and bag since I have school ball right after school.
I get to school around 7:10 and school starts at 7:30. I bring my softball bag to the locker room and go to my locker and get to class. I have lunch around 10:50, then have classes again. Right after school me and my friend Rylie walk to the middle school to change and find out if we’re practicing inside or outside. We usually finish around 4:30.
My friend either sends me home or I stay at her house till one of my parents picks me up. I will usually come home around 5:20. Then when I get home I’ll eat, take a nap, and then do some homework or study if I have things to do for school. I will usually go to sleep around 10:00 or 11:00 if I have homework but if I don’t the latest would be 10:45 and the earliest would be 8:00 or 9:00.
I get burnt out sometimes and I try solving it by just not always caring about softball. If I’m burnt out because I keep making mistakes I try harder. If I’m burnt out because I’m falling out of love with the sport I usually just try not to focus and think about it all the time which usually helps.
How do athletes keep motivated during the off-season?
By Ali Sims on Aug. 26, 2024
Have you ever wondered what athletes do after a sports season? Two Sheridan High School students in the fall and spring talk about what they do from exercising to keeping a good diet to relaxation.
One student, Beckett Strong, who plays soccer and track was asked about her own off-season activities. She does indoor track, her favorite off-season activity, and 4-H all year.
She was also asked if there was any advice or tips she’d give to other athletes who don't know what to do during the off-season. Her response was,”Always put in extra work to reach your goals.”
Another student, Noah Wamer, who plays Baseball, Basketball and Golf, was also asked about his own off-season activities. He stays in shape and prepares for next season. “Make sure you stay in shape next season,” Wamer said.
If you're an athlete and don't know what to do during the off-season, there is some advice from other peers. If you'd like more information, reach out to Beckett Strong and Noah Wamer.
