Sheridan Marching Generals Brave Skull Session
By Isabele McKinney, on Thursday Nov. 8
On Nov. 9 the Sheridan High School Marching Generals have the honor of performing at the OSU vs. Purdue game skull session! Through hard work and dedication, this season the Generals have gotten the chance to perform at the St. John Arena to show off their musical talents with songs from this past season. This event is huge for our Marching Generals, and those who have helped them to get there.
Dave Fazakas is the band director at Sheridan High School, and has assisted them in their journey to Skull Session. Fazakas has been director for 16 years now, through his years he's led the Marching Generals through many great seasons and competitions.
“Mr. Otte put our name on a waiting list in 2020 and we got in,” he says after being asked how this exciting new development came to be. ”I think it's very exciting to perform in front of a huge band and show them our fun way of doing things.” Of course, though, it’s not only the director that is ecstatic about being able to perform at Skull Session: the musicians are, too.
”It's thrilling, but also nerve racking, because this is one of the biggest stages we've ever performed on for the band,” Xander Gray, a senior saxophone player and member of the marching band confesses when asked about his feelings surrounding the impending performance. Gray’s excitement is unanimous among his other bandmates.
“I'm excited to experience this once in a lifetime opportunity and can't wait for the game,” says Junior trumpet player Kathleen Henry, demonstrating just how widespread the anticipation is for the big performance.
As the season draws to a close for the Marching Generals, their performance at Skull Session is going to make for a fantastic finale. The Generals have pleased the crowds with their tunes every show, each of which has been prepared for with hard work and dedication. We applaud the Marching Generals on a season well done, and are greatly anticipating the continuation of their success next year. With Skull Session approaching, we wish them congratulations and good luck!
