Los Angeles Wildfires and How To Help
By Ali Sims, on Thursday Jan. 23
Los Angeles, California has been experiencing terrible wildfires since Jan. 7, 2025. Though Sheridan High School is in the middle of the Midwest, that doesn’t mean we can’t help people living in those conditions.
According to an NBC news article called ‘California Wildfires: What we know about L.A-area fires, what caused them, who is affected and more,’ L.A wildfires are being caused by dry conditions and powerful winds. So far 29 people have died from these fires, many more have been injured, and countless others have lost most of their homes and belongings. “The insured losses from the fires may exceed $20 billion, and total economic losses could reach $50 billion, according to estimates published by JPMorgan,” the NBC article said.
With so much loss and financial problems caused by these wildfires, there are some ways Ohioans can help these people in crisis during this difficult time. The Red Cross has made a California Wildfires Financial Assistance program. “So far, we have placed more than $2,200,000 into the hands of people who have lost everything from these devastating fires,” a representative from the Red Cross said.
