The Circus Leaves Town

Marching band season ends

Their tunes played sweetly to their audience before their final encore that rang throughout the stadium. Silence held for a moment before the crowd burst into joyous cheers for their beloved circus. The Braves brought the crowd into a roar of excitement with their cheerful farewell and smiles on their faces as they took their leave for the season.

The Marching Braves received brilliant scores but unfortunately did not make the cut for the ISSMA Regionals. The scores were tight, but this year was unfamiliar territory as ISSMA has transitioned to an open class format, and only 10 bands could move on to state.

The bittersweet end of the season did bring some mixed emotions to members of the band who hoped to move on after their successful season. “I’m not a man of many words,” said Dustin Rose, senior, “but I see a lot in this group. I wish the best for our marching band for our near future and beyond.”

Congratulations on a successful season, Marching Braves!

There they were, sweat dripping from their foreheads and still statues, before hearing the playful chirps of the whistle. The Marching Braves sang out their show, Cirque Ruisseau, that brought the crowd into a roar of joy at Columbus North. The previous weekend, the same show performed in the blazing heat at Greenwood brought home a 2nd place, best percussion, and a peoples’ choice award. Some felt that the heat made performance difficult. “The sun was in our eyes,” reported Vincent Chapman, who plays trumpet.

“It went well,” said Druella Asher, a flutist in the band. “It was hard, but it was really fun!” Druella reported that while there are places for improvement, they had worked very hard and she believes it will “be awesome once we have it all down.”

Olivia Slevin, color guard, also thought it went well. “I believe personally I could improve, but it went really well. I was really happy with it.”
