November School News

Brandon pushes Megan through the halls of IC for a visit after 3+ months recovery. Both were ecstatic, even if it was just a short visit.

Megan Makes a Visit

On Monday, November 8th, Megan Murray returned to school for the first time in over 2 months. ICHS celebrated the occasion by bringing everyone from their third period classes to welcome the Senior back. When asked about how he felt when the students started clapping, Mr. Skobel stated, “It was definitely emotional. I have known Megan since she was a little girl and to see her happy and back in the building was very emotional for me personally. I don't know the right word to describe it other than to say beyond happy.”

He continued, “I knew then and it is even more cemented in my heart now that this is why our school is so great. If we were a larger school, nothing like this could have happened, but to take time out of learning and pause everyone's day to celebrate a truly remarkable story like Megan's recovery was special. It is one example of what makes IC so great.”

Mr. and Mrs. Murray, Megan’s parents, and her brother Brandon were also ecstatic to see the students in the halls, their claps filling the school. The plan was just to bring Megan in to see the school again. Mr. Skobel explained that “When they arrived I told them I had the thought of calling the kids out in the hallway and letting Megan go around to see everyone, but I thought better of it because I did not want to embarrass or ask too much of Megan; I didn't know if she would like that. Megan said something along the lines of that would have been great. That is when I got on the PA and asked everyone in the hallway.”

Into the Woods at Indian Creek

by Jerry Johnson

The cast for this year’s Musical Into The Woods has been working hard behind the scenes! Tech week is meant to work on things like bows, or tidying up difficult scenes. In normal years, the productions have had two casts. This year, there was only one because it is a two-half-hour show! Talk about a commitment!

Opening night is probably one of the most terrifying of the nights because it is the first performance. Backstage, the cast members were fed, got their makeup done, and got dressed within a two hours time period. Shortly before the start of the show, the cast and crew gather together to do their “Circle.” Circle is something that the cast does in order to hype each other up. They go to a room and stand in a circle while holding hands; they give each other words of encouragement and thanks, and then they all say break a leg and disperse to finish getting ready.

At 7:00 pm the show began. Opening night went well, and the cast gave Mrs. Swopes, the director, a bunch of canned beans as a running joke from previous years. Night two was senior night, which is always emotional because it is sort of a thank you and goodbye. The cast received a few awards and the seniors said some goodbyes. The last night in the Circle, the cast was emotional as it starts to set in that this is the last Circle for the seniors. The night went well and the musical cast finished this year’s musical with a bang.
