Week ending
Friday 13th October, 2023
Dear Families,
What a fantastic week at Woodberry Down Nursery! The children are building confidence in their communication and language and are beginning to use louder voices. We are continuing to support our children when arriving at school and leaving school - thank you for allowing them to walk into the Nursery playground and to use their legs as much as possible.
In order to maintain the safety of the children, we kindly ask all adults to allow space for the children to enter and exit the building.
This week, we explored the curious question, 'How do we travel on water?' and the children have had a brilliant time creating, drawing, building, painting, floating boats... and more! Thank you so much to families that were able to join us for our Come Learn with Me event. We hope that you took away lots of ideas for Physical Development.
Finally, this week we made porridge with all of our children - and they loved it! The team are really proud of the children for using mixing, pouring and cutting skills - please continue this at home where you can as it's a great way to develop their physical movement skills.
One week until half term.
Best wishes,
The Nursery Team.

Our Maths Learning this week
We've been exploring size - Big and Small
We linked this to the traditional tale 'Goldilocks and the 3 bears' and we made porridge!
Our colour of the week is GREEN.
Activities to try at home this weekend
Have a go at making porridge over the weekend - send us your photos!
Most of our children were able to successfully use a knife to chop a banana.
Please encourage your child to explore this more at home, under supervision.
Noticeboard
Independent toileting
Please continue to teach your child at home how to use the toilet on their own, including pulling down and pulling up their own clothing and wiping themselves.
We strongly encourage you not to give your child a nappy or pull-up at night. Alternatively, buy a waterproof sheet and make sure your child does not drink anything just before they go to bed.
Well done to all of you who have recently been working so hard on toileting! We have seen fantastic progress!
Dummies
If your child is still using a dummy, why not wrap it up and give it away to Father Christmas as a present for the Elves.
Now is a good time to start the transition - we want our children to be talking freely and as much as possible!
