Week ending Friday 29th September 2023
Dear Families,
This week in Reception we concluded our 'All About Me' topic by learning all about growth. Our learning focused on answering our curious question: 'How have you changed since you were a baby?' We talked about how people grow and the things that the children can do now that they aren't babies anymore. The children really enjoyed looking at each other's baby pictures and guess who each baby was. We also discussed the importance of dental hygiene and how to keep your teeth clean. In phonics, we also learned 5 new sounds in phonics this week and the children are starting to comfortably blend their sounds together to begin reading simple words. In our maths lessons we explored different ways to represent the number 4! We represented it with our fingers, movements, concrete objects and even on a ten frame. Â We even had a chance to do a spot of gardening with Ms. Jean in the afternoons!
It has been fantastic to see the children settling into the school routine and becoming excited about their learning. Next week we will be starting our new topic 'Colour' where we get to explore our feelings and expressing ourselves through art.
Have a restful weekend.Â
Best wishes from the Reception Team

Baby
What can you do that a baby can't do?

Our Maths Learning this week
This week we built on our knowledge of number. We focussed on representing the number 4 in many different ways! Can you show 4 on your fingers?
Our Phonics Learning this week
Practise the sounds we have learnt this week with your child by clicking on the pictures below. The more opportunities they have to see, hear and say the sounds, the more likely they are to stick. The videos will teach you too!
Activities to try at home this weekend
Try out one or both of these activities with your child this weekend. Please send us any photos you take or bring your child's learning into school - we'd love the see them!
Compare baby pictures!
Have a look at picture from when you were a baby and now that your are a child. Can you say what is the same and what is different?
Practise using a knife and fork
Practice cutting your food all by yourself! Learning how to use cutlery helps build the muscles in your fingers. You could start with a dish that is easy to cut like a banana or cooked potato.
