Rendering More Realistic Models
The Warehouse includes many textures that repeat beautifully - the ones included with Sketchup are very basic and low-resolution. Look for larger file sizes (100kb and up) to have more detail, especially when viewed close up.
We aren't going to be importing any MODELS to use in your designs, but there are a TON of improved textures to be found in models there. You can download textures from the internet but they need to repeat seamlessly - textures from the Warehouse usually do that very well. Look for larger file sizes as they usually have nice levels of detail, but you will usually need to edit them so they repeat nicely on your house.
Dimension is Adobe's entry into the world of 3D Rendering. Many recent improvements combined with our upgraded computers make it relatively easy to render a more realistic-looking image of our house. Something to try before we dive into Blender!
Animating With Scenes
Anyone can "take a picture" of their house and show it from a specific angle. A video of your model, however, really gives visitors to your portfolio a real sense of what you have created.
In which I group and center the house before setting the first scene of my animation. Positioning is key - don't let the panel that opens on the right side of the screen throw your entire animation off center.
In which we continue adding additional scenes to make a short looping sequence that we will capture to make a recording of our model. 5 scenes is enough, but add closeups if you have fine detail to show. Don't overdo it though.. 8-10 is getting to be too many for a truly simple house.
We'll be using a new screen recording software called Screencastify to turn our scenes into a video file we can put in our PORTFOLIO FILES - DO NOT DELETE folder on Google Drive. This will let us place it on our portfolios as an animation! NOTE: YOU ONLY GET 10 FREE RECORDINGS. It installs as a Chrome extension and appears to have some editing tools that will let us crop the parts we don't want to see as well as add our names like Penny did below.
