New Husky Teachers
Amberleigh Foster is one of NECPs new high school math teachers. Having gone to Nash Community College and then transferring to UNC Chapel Hill, she earned a bachelor's degree in Art and an associate’s degree in Science. This 2023-2024 school year will mark her second year of teaching. She seems to have taken a liking to NECP, having even said, “I love it here!.” She used to cheer at UNC-Chapel Hill and lived on a farm that contained a plethora of animals.
Meet Ms. Williams, NECP's high school Biology and one of our Earth and Environmental teachers. Ms. Williams went to college at Winston-Salem University. She has been a teacher for two years. She is on the School Yearbook Committee and would love for more people to join. Ms. Williams said, “If anyone is interested in joining the yearbook committee, please stop by my room”. Ms. Williams added, “I hope that anyone who takes my class will enjoy it.”
Ms. Antoinette Atkinson is NECP’s new kindergarten teacher. She received her Associate's degree in Early Childhood Education at Wilson Community College and her Master’s at Strayer University where she studied Public Administration. She has been a teacher for 3 years. She loves spending time with her family and traveling.
Introducing Mr. Leonard Baker who is NECP’s new CTE teacher. He attended college at Appalachian State & ECU. He Studied Physical Education, Industrial Technology, Administration of Physical Education & Athletics. He has been teaching for 32 years. He enjoys the outdoors and coaching football.
Mrs. Willoughby is not only NECP’s new weightlifting teacher, she is also our new Athletic Director. She studied Physical Education at Barton College and has been teaching for 29 years. “I’m enjoying my time at NECP”, commented Mrs. Willoughby.
One of our new elementary school teachers, Mrs. Cynthia Ward, studied Business Administration at Wesleyan University. Mrs. Ward was a banker for 32 years before changing careers to become a teacher. She has been teaching for 4 years. “Banking was a career, teaching is a passion,” Mrs. Ward said.
Mrs. Mclean is the new AIG teacher. She attended UNC-Chapel Hill and ECU. Mrs. Mclean studied Speech Communications and earned a Master’s degree at ECU. She has been teaching for 30 years. To relax Mrs. Mclean enjoys cooking.
Ms. Pippa Bryant is NECP’s new Guidance Counselor. She has been in the school system for over 30 years. She studied at ECU and received degrees in Science and School Administration. She enjoys spending time outside and weight training.
Amanda Rogers is the new American Sign Language teacher here at NECP and this is her first time teaching. She attended Wilson Community College and East Carolina University. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy and an Associate’s in Interpreter Education. She has three children, a husband, and five dogs that she loves, even though they are expensive.
Donna Hunter is one of the new 8-12 math teachers here at NECP. She graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in Math Education. Ms. Hunter has been teaching for 32 years. Lastly, she shared that she enjoys NECP’s positive environment and that the students are eager to learn.
I would like to introduce our new Agricultural Educator, Tate Mayo. He is a NC State Wolfpack graduate. Mr. Mayo received his Bachelor’s in Agricultural Science in 2016. This is not only Mr. Mayo’s first year at NECP, it is also his first year teaching and we are very glad to have him join our Husky Team. Mr. Mayo has two little sisters, whom he loves dearly, and a precious Belgium Spaniel named Splash.
Kathrine Pennington is one of our newest second grade teachers and she has been teaching for 2 and a half years. She graduated from Appalachian State University and majored in Elementary Education and a concentration in Diversity Studies. We welcome her with open arms and in her words, “Go Huskies!”
Shayla Thorne is one of our newest Kindergarten teachers and we hope she enjoys her time here. She went to North Carolina Wesleyan University with a major in Sociology and Psychology and played soccer for 4 years. She’s been teaching for 4 years before and coaches our middle school soccer team. She’s also a children’s book author and has written books like A Weekend At Grandma’s.
Ms. Atkinson-Skinner
Meet Mrs. Atkinson-Skinner, one of NECP’s new English teachers! While this is her first year teaching here, she has been a Husky parent for the last two years. Mrs. Atkinson-Skinner is an ACT and SGA facilitator for our school. When asked about her thoughts on working on our campus, she stated “I have been captivated by our leadership. They are genuinely invested in all aspects of the school.” She is an ECU graduate and a firm believer in the value of community college. Mrs. Atkinson-Skinner, we welcome you and hope you’ve had an amazing first semester.
Julianna Wall, our new Drama and Theatre Arts teacher, attended Barton College in Wilson, North Carolina and graduated in 2022. She majored in Theatre and History and minored in English. This is her first official teaching job but has experience working with children. An interesting fact about her is that she used to work at Disney’s Space Mountain before teaching.
