Prologue; About a century ago…
Clair was a rather acceptable daughter, she wasn’t perfect but she tried her best. She was also really strong and smart…special. I don’t know why they won’t trust me on this spell. I can tell them later…it won't be dangerous at all. Besides I don’t want to end up like grandma, dead, while that smug, self-satisfied, murderer, Luis jerk got away with all his crimes, who knows if he’s even really dead. I wonder if he’s gone for good. She thought about her grandmother's ex-best friend, who was no one really, only the biggest traitor of her life! He’s probably plotting, and scheming! Who knows what he might try next! What if he comes after me, my family! I have to know that we’ll see each other again, She thought worriedly.
She, really, had only ever known one person who was the most like her. But she didn’t even want to think about them, it turned out they were descended from Luis, Luis the one who had been known for being the most despicable, the most malicious, the most disgusting, the most diabolical, the most-, you get the idea.
He started off a really great guy, they actually used to call him a hero, or ‘peace bringer’, because he was part of the group that solved the conflict between the Jinxers, Parallels, Gifted, Mortals and Promisers.
Promisers were of the strongest, there is great confusion on whether or not they are a mix of Jinxers and Parallels, or whether they are the ones who made them. Even though there are more questions than answers, some things are known for sure. For instance, the Gifted are mortals that were ‘gifted’ by the promisers. Luis had a mother Promiser, and a father Jinxer, the worst part is that those are among the strongest. When he was born, people thought that his powers would ‘cancel out’, because while the Promisers give ‘gifts’ to the ‘worthy’ mortals, Jinxers have the capability to take away the powers of the gifted. But, of course, ‘canon event’, he was born even stronger, because while yes, his powers would’ve canceled out, he was born under a full. And according to her grandmother, the last one alive that had actually known Luis, a full would make him not only be able to give gifts to others but to himself too!
While she feared, and despised Luis, she kind of started to feel sorry for judging Lenny by his grandad. And she could emphasize with Lenny, after all, they were both among the last Promisers of their generation, or possibly even the last. That wasn’t even the worst part, the worst part was that she was beginning to like Lenny, not like you could blame Clair. Ok, maybe I can go apologize for saying I never wanted to see him again. After dinner though. The funny part was, her parents didn’t know about her argument with Lenny, they didn’t even know Lenny existed.
If they did, they would probably encourage her to go out with Luis, and marry him, just to double the odds of a promiser being born in the next generation. Considering that Promisers couldn’t mix with mortals, which were more common than say, Parallels, who have no reason to show themselves since most people tend to be inclined to ‘hunting’ them; apparently the Mortals weren’t too happy about a humanoid race trying blending among them. So Clair really didn’t have a lot of options. And Clair really didn’t like to give people the opportunity to sway her decisions, so she obviously couldn’t tell them.
She held her experiment necklace in her hand and said “ Necklace, if I die with you, me and all my family shall live another life in the same family with different looks.” She hesitated before adding. “And no memory at all of the life before.” She put the necklace in her pocket and left. Her great dane, Leti, was waiting for her.
And he said, telepathically of course, “ You need to report to the dining room.” They walked down together where her family gave her a welcoming new gossip subject. “This morning…” Began her father. “A new duck has hatched! And our neighbor says he would like to buy it. Can you believe it? Even after their dog killed the mother!” “For shame” said Lincon in his little baby voice.
As they spoke about what to do,Lola the dog walked by. “Come and catch me Leti,…you too small bean.” By “small bean” she must have been referring to Walter. Walter left running out the house, if that even counted as running, and Leti just balanced on the window frame to create dramatic tension, then he jumped out the window and onto the trampoline. Like he always does, but there was something on the trampoline.
What is that? It looks like a- oh no! “Leti, no!” Ka-boom!
What the? Where am I? We were on the trampoline, or no, what?…am I in my new mothers tummy? But- why do I still remember? Oh, yeah. I’ll probably forget everything later. Clair thinks as she begins to see some light. Oh, my mommy and daddy, who's that? Oh right Dylin. I wonder what his new name will be. “Isn’t she wonderful.” Said Clair’s new mom excitedly. “She sure is!” Replies her new father happily. “Come look at your new little sister Donnie.” Says her father. Oh, Donnie. I'm starting to forget everything now. But first I have to know, Before she could forget, Clair, well Clara, or..they made one last spell, only to make sure her new life would be just as exciting as the one before. She planned every detail, every word in the wording, carefully. Wow, I hope this isn’t going to be a disappointing waste of my spirit, but if..if..this..w-That was the last thing that Clair thought before she began a new life. She only had one regret, not getting to apologize to Lenny..
