NCU Training is a trading name of NCU CLG (Company Limited by Guarantee), formally known as the Northside Centre for the Unemployed (NCU), co-located within the local community services centre popularly known as the Glin Centre in Coolock, Dublin 17. A Voluntary Board of Management conducts higher management functions and manages two other separate companies, i.e. The NCU CE Scheme Project and the Glin Jobs Club. NCU Training functions under the direction of a Training and Business Development Manager for management and the quality assurance of its training business operations.
Established in the mid-1980s, Bonnybrook Unemployed Action Group began its work to help the unemployed. In July 1991, the group changed its name to Northside Centre for the Unemployed (NCU). As a precursor to the present NCU Training, in June 1998 a training subdivision was established under the name of Northside Computer Training Centre using one room with ten computers. Due to the increasing popularity of the Training Centre and its increased workload, a separate management structure was put in place for the Training Centre in 2003. NCU Training since then has provided an ever-increasing number of both accredited FETAC (now QQI), SOLAS Safe Pass courses also non-accredited training courses to various users, which include DEASP (Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection), CE Projects, TUS and private users.
NCU Training has been an accredited FETAC Centre (FETAC Registration No. 40819H) since 2008, after having obtained a Quality Assurance Agreement from FETAC in the same year. In 2016, the company status changed under the New Company Law Changes, Introduced by the Companies (Accounting) Act 2017 and NCU. Limited became NCU CLG with its trading name remaining as NCU Training. NCU Training is the first Independent/Private FET Provider in Ireland to Re-engage with QQI Quality and Qualifications Ireland, and the QQI Programmes and Awards Executive Committee (PAEC) approved our Quality Assurance on 20 December 2018.
NCU Training is a not-for-profit organisation with the sole purpose of providing the highest quality of further education and training to its learners/stakeholders.
Our goal is to create a standard that delivers on quality provision, not profit provision. NCU Training is entirely non-funded, so we compete with other Independent Training Providers on an equal footing.
