ABSTRACT
Climate predictions and projections play a central role in informing adaptation decisions. However, users require reliable climate information across timescales ranging from days, months, and seasons, to years and decades for seamless decision-making. Therefore, one of the main goals of the ASPECT project is to develop novel ways of combining different initialised forecast products such as seasonal, multi-annual and multi-decadal range forecasts, to support users needing climate information spanning these timescales. A unique element of the ASPECT project is its co-production approach, which involves understanding user needs and co-developing tailored methods that facilitate value-added, user-relevant adaptation strategies.
Key users of ASPECT include organisations from the agriculture, governance, finance, humanitarian, and disaster-response sectors across various European regions, many of which have been significantly impacted by climate extremes in recent years. We are developing an innovative temporal merging method to provide seamless climate information across monthly to multi-annual timescales for tailored climate extremes. A case study from the agriculture sector will be presented, illustrating how this product can support vineyard farmers in Spain by predicting spring frost risk hazards.
A regular series of streamed online seminars. The aim of the seminar series is to offer easy-to-access and interactive online seminars designed to share latest thinking and good practice, and exchange ideas, tools and processes. We envisage the seminar series will become an exciting vehicle that helps to encourage free flowing dialogue and collaboration right across the NCAS community. Seminars can have a science focus or be used to share anything that may be of professional interest to the NCAs community.
Seminars will take place every other Wednesday at 13:00. Seminars are hosted on Google Meet to join follow the link
